Writing is
a great way
to take a vacation
via your imagination.
It can even be a great way to vent your frustrations!
 But, where does one begin?
Why not try writing for fun?!

What is Creative Nonfiction?
Creative nonfiction is telling a true story in an imaginative way. For example, instead of just saying, “Well, I had a great Aunt Bessie once, who was so poor she sold her favorite cow to survive,” you might start your tale thusly, “Bessie took the milk pail and cursed the cold frosty morning as she pulled her threadbare shawl closer around her and stepped out of the one-room cabin.”

Creative Nonfiction is Like a Diary – sort of…
I like to think of Creative Nonfiction as “enhanced journaling!” It’s a method for recording your family weddings, births, or other memorable events in a way that can bring a smile – as well as great insight to family origins – to future generations, who will read your penned words with great interest and perhaps find out just a little bit more about good old Aunt Bessie than they otherwise would have cared to.

Why not try it yourself?
Write about something that happened in your family but change the names of the characters, or add extra “hijinks” into a recap of your last family vacation!

Just try writing for fun!
