I thought of Psalm 139 today
as a riff on the famed Astley song
– you know the one.
I recognized
for the first time
the doggedness of the gospel.
In lifelong hot-pursuit of my soul
and even in privatemost times
It followed me,
though I was blind,
and angry at God for creation.
“Guilty am I!” I raged at the Lord,
“Because YOU created me so!”
I shook my fist.
I felt justified.
I demanded God give me “straight answers.”
All I heard back was, ‘you’re guilty, as charged,’
though I wrestled to shift paradigms.
Anxiety increased.
I found no peace.
My insides were all full of wormwood.
Until God, in his glory, revealed in due time
the glorious cross invitation.
First, I perceived.
Next, I believed.
Now I lay down my guilt and find peace.
Yeah, I thought of Psalm 139 today
as a riff on the famed Astley song,
and now I see
the ultimate roll
Is the glorious work of our savior.
He’s never gonna.
Never, ever, gonna.
