The Art of Human Appreciation – #2

The Art of Human Appreciation is a poem by J. R. Nichols. Click here to read a random post!

Are compliments only for underlings?
Anything nice you say nice is “kissing up.”
Why?
Not judging, I promise, for I am GUILTY, myself of superiority,
though in a much different way;
as I feel often,
when I compliment,
that I am stooping,
yes, stooping…
…and there is my shame…
but stooping
to lift someone,
who does not need
yet
another
boot
on
his
face.
So while I am guilty,
I’ll own no shame,
for I made another man smile.

A CHALLENGE!

What would it hurt YOU,
to say to a man,
“you know what, you ARE someone special!”
Why is it dangerous to build self-esteem
inside of a creature so fragile?
